nkechi live! :: Have Guitar, Will Travel :: TODAY 7/11 & Other Experiences & Dates

Blessed Friends!

Have Guitar, Will Travel.  Below are some show dates for today 7/11 and then more dates in July, August, & September.  But first I'd like to share an experience.

A few days ago I experienced the most exquisite joy of placing a pair of shoes onto the feet of a homeless woman from the Tenderloin. She miraculously appeared as I was parking my car preparing to perform in Abigail, the Rock Opera.  She also needed food and I gave her what I had. Over the July 4th holiday I had the blessing of traveling and performing in a wonderful play with a few good actor's in San Antonio and then ended that week in visiting loved ones and family in LA.

As I write this e-mail, to this moment I still feel that the glow of this homeless woman's smile as I put one of the many shoes strewn about my car on her feet is the highlight of my year.   I pray for more opportunities to give away that which has been so graciously given to me.  The day to day business of my life sometimes does not make this easy, but living in San Francisco offers me so many opportunities. She like me lives in San Francisco. I am honored today to be able to support her community by playing music for an event in the Tenderloin.

For now the opportunities to give that come my way are to play music in support of a few good friends and their causes.  Here's a list of what I am up to today ( a lot) and over the next few months.  I appreciate all support, cheers, and blessings you muster my way. And most importantly I am so trememndously grateful for all opportunities to play music.  I am also so grateful to all of you who read and comment on these e-mails as it encourage me to continue to pursue my heights of my hearts love and delight in creativity.  Be Blessed in Your Day.

Happy Father's Day :: More Nkechi Live Music in June :-)

Happy Father's Day!

I am delighted to celebrate Father's Day with you.  By the time you get this you may be well into or well past your father's day activities.  May your day and all days be blessed!  I know we are all linked in one way or another to someone who is our father, a father, or who filled the role of father for us during the course of our life.  May we remember and honor them as best we can today :-)

My father passed on 9/14/2001 which to put it mildly it was a significant loss.  It began a journey that has anchored me deeper into my spirituality and thus inspired me to pursue a deeper relationship with God my Eternal Father.  With the loss of my earthly father came a sound of music from within my soul and from then on .. actually after few years .. and then from then on with repeated surrenders to this Truth .. I am grateful for all opportunities laid in my path to express my myself through music and written song.

So again Happy Father's Day.  Today I celebrate all fathers, on earth and in Heaven!

NEWS ABOUT SHOWS::
Now, at the beginning of the month I sent an e-mail letting you know I was singing 7 shows in June.  Well it looks like the sum total will be 10 shows by the end of the month, but who's counting?

Yesterday I performed music at the delightful Laurel Street Summer Solstice Festival.  It was a sweet experience to notice all the dad's in various forms of doting on or being doted on by their loved ones.  My station was Monique's Clozet  and I had to restrain myself from moving in.  Her designer clothing on consignment are a must see.  Seeing is believing http://www.moniquesclozet.com.  The other merchants can be found at  http://www.laureldistrictassociation.com

SUNDAY, June 20th @ 2 PM

TODAY, Sunday 6/20, Father's Day I will be playing music for James Keys who is running for Supervisor for District 6 in San Francisco.  I choose not be a political person and usually chose to abstain from all debates.  However, whenever I am asked to play music it gives me an opportunity to learn a liittle about new things.  So far I am inspired by my research on James Keys. I am inspired that he is advocating for Laura's Law and am grateful he presently serves as the chair of the San Francisco Mental Health Board (MHB).  They are throwing a James Keys campaign party.  I will be playing at 2pm following a Haitian Band called Majestic who plays at 12noon.  Here are the Details:

Sunday, June 20, 2010
James Keys Campaign Party
1244 Northpoint Apt. A
Treasure Island - SF, CA 94130
http://www.jameskeysdistrict6.com

Music Starts at 12pm Majestic - local Haitian band
& 2 pm Nkechi Live - organic soul singer/songwriter

So at 2pm today this Father's Day I will sing songs from the heart and I am so looking forward to it.  Stop by or send a well wish if you like.

SUNDAY, June 27, 2010
Lastly I am presently on hold for a gig on June 27th who knows which way it will go, but I'll send you details as soon as I am confirmed.

    Here some details:

The Cat's Pajamas is a monthly cabaret featuring spoken word, music, dance, and performance art acts that are an ode to the cultural aesthetics of the past. This Month join us for "The Revolutionary Poets Brigade" A celebration of the evolution of the revolution. Marxists and thinkers, border fighters and beatboxers, funk wailers and hip hop healers. dada tunes and videoscapes. It will be a night of expansion and if you don't have any idea what all of that meant you are just going to have come and see what it's all about. We are ready to honor all of the ways of the new.

    Performers:

    The Revolutionary Poets Brigade: They are a group of powerhouse poets who have battled the decades in search of meaning and truth. They walk their talk and are still invested in breaking this world wide open so that we can begin to live with a genuine justice. They prove that beautiful and vibrant words can actually make a difference. From this group two amazing women will be reading;

Dottie Payne: An intensely knowledgeable, supremely vibrant poet nurtured in literature and trained in the word fight for expressive rights who can also rock a pair of heels.

Jessica Loos: Is uniquely placed in the history of North Beach Poetry, having survived close relationships with many a Beat Icon, she brings both spirit and energy to the contempory table with her swagger and penetrating voice placing many of her peers decidely under that well notched table (and sadly in the case of some of her Beat predecessors, under the ground).

Other Performers: Xandra, Andy Warthol, Robyn,The Bombshells, Nate Pagel, We Are the Unreal, Sam Sax, and Paintings By Couca.

    The Band:
Nkechi Live: With a voice that travels far past this known world into new and uncharted territory only to bring it all back and down with weight and earth and the gravity of soul, Nkechi has been known to cure your ills and heal your wounds through music but you didn't even know it because you were dancing so hard and having such a marvelous time. We get her and the full band so be prepared to move about wildly with a wide grin on your face. http://www.nkechi.com

I Stand  :: words & music by Nkechi

I Stand in Awe of U
I Stand Humbled by Ur Grace.
    I Stand Receiving the Miracles
    The Essence of Ur Name

When my eyes are closed and
    No one’s looking in
U and I smile quietly inside
    Remembering

    U Came When I Least Expected U 2
    U Came When I Least wanted U 2
U Came and Stayed and Stayed and Stayed
And Gave and Gave and Gave
    ‘Till I Couldn’t Stay Away.

I Stand in Awe of U
I Stand Humbled by Ur Grace.
    I Stand Receiving the Miracles
    The Essence of Ur Name

Even When Hopes Didn’t Seem 2 be Fulfilled
You Quietly Whispered Ur Purpose in my Ear
    And Now I Exclaim I Hear U, I Hear U, I Hear U

I Stand in Awe of U
I Stand Humbled by Ur Grace.

My heart hurts for Haiti.  I am overwhelmed by the catastrophic loss, meanwhile I am so grateful to all the volunteers who have dropped all to GIVE of their time and energy to helping find, restore, and help the people of Haiti.  My prayers are with everyone whose lives and families have been affected by this natural disaster.

I write music through life's experiences.  Please download a copy of my new song GIVE.  Here's the chorus which came to me in late 2008e/early 2009 and which has been a life mantra since before I can remember:

    Give
Even More than U Can Stand
    Give
    Everything U've Got 2
    Forgive
    So We Can Live
    So We Can Live

Next Show :: Monday, Jan 25th, 2010 :: Nkechi Live! @ Caffe Greco, 423 Columbus, SF

This coming Monday January 25th at Caffe Greco, 423 Columbus Ave, SF, CA around 8 pm, I am the featured performer alongside some of the Bay Area's most briliant word smiths. They read their poetry and I sing as in vocalize words and rhymes to rhythms and melodies while I strum my guitar .. or perhaps tap a drum if I'm up to it.  Since 10/26 I have been immersed in one of the most intense writing periods of my life.  Life happens so I get to make music, or is it the other way around?  So I'm making a point to mostly play new songs.  Newly inspired songs, including songs birthed from the soul ache of our planet's recent tragedies.  And mostly I get to be with other like inspired fun folks, so I hope you are able to join us. http://www.nkechi.com

Thank U for Ur Ongoing Support Over the Years.  My Spirit is finally finding her way through my muse and I'm ready to birth a full length album.  I am wiriting songs like my heart depends on it and I am finally realizing that it actually does :-)

Let's continue to keep the people of Haiti in Our Prayers.  Look forward 2 Seeing Or Connecting with U Sooner than Soon :-)

May 2010 Be Ur Most Blessed Year!

    Blessings :-)
